Mental Health Discussions for People Interested in Equitable and Integrative Health & Social Change

Our BASIC LIFE community is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to educated, compassionate, and non-violent approaches to mental health support and care. The name reflects our commitment to honouring the fundamental human rights of each person – to receive informed, accessible support for mental wellness that uplifts rather than oppresses. Our current mental health systems, often modelled around illness and structured in ways that uphold systemic biases, can sometimes feel limiting or exclusionary. But what if we could reimagine a world where mental health support is dynamic, integrative, and centred on the individuals holistic support needs – prioritizing prevention, well-being, and empowerment?

Basic Life recognizes and openly discusses the inequalities and inequities in the mental health system, often influenced by factors such as ethnicity, race, socio-economic status, gender, sexuality and diagnosis. This community is a space for open, inclusive conversations where everyone can access knowledge as power, to recognise all possibilities available to us.

Whether you’re joining us as someone with lived experience, a parent or carer, a practitioner in mental health or complementary therapies, or somebody working to support others who might might experience mental health challenges you’re welcome here.

Together, we’re creating a platform for Basic Life Support– grounding mental health care in humanity, connection, and the power of shared learning to build a more equitable future for all.
