RACIAL JUSTICE & SOCIAL CHANGE

Empowering Collective Racial and Social Healing and Justice for the Global Majority

Understanding, Connection, and Liberation for Our Health and Wellbeing

As a dual-heritage woman, I’ve journeyed through a world that never quite held space for me to “fit” neatly into any single sector of society. My experience, distinct from that of many others, has both challenged and enriched my perspective, inspiring me to create accessible, practical ways to support the global majority in recognizing the profound effects of colonization, systemic oppression, and racism. I share these insights through training, mentoring, and community work for individuals, patients, carers, and those working in health, wellbeing, and social care.

Witnessing and Sharing Lived Experience for Collective Growth

I ground my work in the lived realities of myself and those I serve personally and as a mental health nurse, guided by the wisdom of ancestral lineages and stories that offer profound context to our struggles and strengths. This deeply personal yet universal approach is vital, as we recognize that “the system is working just how it is meant to” (Kemi Joy Johnson) to sustain oppressive structures. My journey has shown me that we must, therefore, work in ways that go beyond traditional frameworks to forge paths of understanding, mutual support, and real healing.

Since stepping away from my NHS role, I have been able to articulate my own experiences and those I witnessed more fully. I found my voice and, with it, a renewed commitment to educate others. It’s this clarity that fuels my mission: to offer training that empowers all participants of all cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds —be they individuals, patients, or carers in the mental health system, complementary therapists, or regulated healthcare professionals—to find their own voices, speak out against injustice, and build community spaces that support reparation and healing.

Creating Spaces for Learning, Empowerment, and Healing

I design my training sessions and workshops with both individuals and professionals in mind, acknowledging that healing from the impacts of systemic racism and oppression requires our collective effort. By coming together, we embrace both our sameness and our unique differences as sources of strength. Together, we create spaces where the global majority can find solidarity, liberation, and healing. When you choose to wok with me, you decide whether you work with a mixed ethnicity group or global majority only.

Training Topics Include:

  • Finding Your Voice and Reclaiming Power: Techniques for individuals to recognize and confront personal and systemic challenges with a foundation of support and solidarity.

  • Understanding Cultural and Racial Trauma: Insightful training for healthcare and wellbeing practitioners on the pervasive effects of oppression and colonial legacies on mental and physical health.

  • Creating Communities of Reparation and Healing: Collaborative workshops focused on building resilient, supportive communities that stand against systemic injustice and work toward collective healing.

  • Liberation-Focused Care for Professionals and Carers: Equipping mental health practitioners, carers, and healthcare professionals with the tools to support liberation-focused care that validates the experiences of the global majority.

This work is about more than just training; it is a movement to acknowledge, address, and mend the wounds of historical and present-day injustices. I invite you to join this journey of empowerment, whether you’re seeking healing for yourself or your community, learning for professional growth, or advocating for a more just world.

Suggested Reading

These books are written from a variety of perspectives, each offering unique insights into topics such as healing, mental health, identity, race, and systemic oppression. My recommendation is that you read and reach your own conclusions about why I have suggested these particular works. Equally, my suggestions are just that—suggestions. I’ve shared them with you based on my personal and professional preferences, as these books have significantly shaped my understanding of these issues (one way or another!). Some have left me feeling angry, exhausted, motivated or enlightened, and everything in-between! I recognize there are countless other incredible books out there, some which I have read but have not shared here, that deserve attention. Most of these books are available as hard copies, audiobooks and Kindle, and I recommend you buy from a Global Majority or Independent bookstore, if this is viable for you. If you think there are others I should add to this list, drop me a line—I’d love to hear your recommendations!
